Harvest Mouse Training – Kent

November 12, 2022

A harvest mouse training event with Steve Kirk in Kent. More information below:

Harvest Mouse ‘Nest Fest’ at Fordwich, Canterbury, Kent on Saturday November 12th. If you have never seen a harvest mouse nest in the wild before this is a great opportunity. Nests are guaranteed – and it is not often one can say that. Join Steve Kirk for free training in how to survey for harvest mice or just to see the nests in their habitat. This will also be a training day for anyone wishing to participate in the National Harvest Mouse Survey being run by the Mammal Society.

Details: Meet on the river path opposite the George and Dragon pub in Fordwich at 10.50 a.m. Steve will be in Wildwood uniform. Bring a walking-type stick (for moving vegetation). Wellies are recommended, as the grass will be wet. Dress appropriately for the conditions. We will wait until 11.00 a.m. before moving off, but if you are late don’t worry you will see us along the left-hand edge of the open space by the river.

Afterwards, there will be the option to explore a little way in the other direction along the river for harvest mouse habitat there.

This event is open to all, including those travelling from further afield.
