Get in touch with your local mammal group via the links below to find out how you can support your local mammals, and contribute to national and global mammal conservation.
No local group near you? Why not start one? The Mammal Society will support and guide you through the process. No background in mammalogy is required, and groups that focus on wider wildlife or environmental subjects are welcome to register as a local mammal group in order to have their mammal-related activities supported by the Mammal Society. The Mammal Society is particularly keen to hear from those interested in starting mammal groups in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Cardiff, urban areas, and to support groups led by or actively engaging minority ethnic communities, and those with disabilities.

The Stackpole Ecology Research Network (SERN) in Pembrokeshire is a new Local Group of the Mammal Society with a programme designed to bring Welsh communities together to improve access to nature, develop ecological skills locally, and equip young people (18–25) with the tools and experience to contribute meaningfully to wildlife conservation in Wales. The programme combines practical citizen science, community-centred activities, and world-class ecological research focused on endangered bat species affected by climate change.
The initiative consists of three interconnected projects, each strengthening local capacity for conservation while supporting long-term monitoring of threatened mammals such as bats, otters, badgers, and small mammals around the Stackpole Estate. The projects will collectively strengthen community engagement, reduce social isolation, create new learning opportunities, and support long-term environmental stewardship. Please contact the Stackpole Ecology Research Network (SERN) secretary Alice Thorne e-mail: sernsecretary@gmail.com
