Calling all bookworms! We’re launching a Mammal Book Club for wildlife-lovers this month, hosted on Discord.
This is a virtual book club where you can talk about nature books with other wildlife-lovers, hosted exclusively on Discord’s chat channels, making it accessible for those who prefer not to be on camera or talk on the phone. We understand that live video discussions can be uncomfortable for some, so we've created a space where members can participate through text-based chats. This format allows everyone to join in the conversation at their own pace, share their thoughts freely, and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow book lovers without the pressure of live interaction.
By downloading the free Discord app and using our link to join the book club server you’ll have access to various chat channels to discuss your thoughts, insights, and takeaways from each book we read together. Every month members of the club will vote to decide which book we’ll read next.
How do I attend?
All book discussions will take place on the chat channels on discord. We’ll set up individual channels for each book and aim to read a few chapters a week to keep the discussion flowing. But don’t panic--we’ll teach you how to tag and hide spoilers from other members!
Who is it for and what books will we read?
This book club is perfect for anyone who wants to learn more about mammals, whether that’s via anecdotal accounts or more scientific observations. We’ll also mix things up by including books on broader nature topics such as rewilding.
How can I access the books?
The books we discuss will be available from a variety of places, including used bookshops, your local library, or as audiobooks.
What will we discuss?
The floor will be open for you to discuss whatever aspects of the book you like! We’ll throw in some prompts here and there to keep the conversation flowing but mostly it’ll be up to you. This is intended to be a positive, safe space for mammal enthusiasts to come together and discuss the animals we all love, not an English classroom, so the literary critique and politics will be kept to a minimum.
