Afrika Priestley
Data & Research Officer
Afrika recently completed a Master’s in Animal Behaviour: Applications for Conservation at Anglia Ruskin University, where she used drone based surveys to study how beaver activity shapes Arctic shrub ecosystems. Her experience spans from working as a climate lead for a Scottish charity supporting Black and Brown young people, animal rescue, and founding a university Sustainability Society that created a community garden. She is fascinated by the intersections of nature, technology and people, a passion fuelled by both fieldwork and her love of sci fi and cyberpunk literature, and is committed to climate justice and making conservation more inclusive.
Beyond work, Afrika enjoys exploring wild places, gorge walking rivers and getting stuck into her many hobbies whether it be reading or salsa dancing.
Favourite mammal: Marine mammal has to be a humpback whale and terrestrial right now is a fox.
