Ben Harrower
Ben Harrower is a trained forester and wildlife specialist with over 20 years’ experience in conservation and wildlife management projects across the UK and internationally. He has worked with Forestry and Land Scotland, the Woodland Trust, and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), contributing to high-profile initiatives including the Knapdale beaver reinforcement, wildcat research/trapping prior to the reintroduction project, pine hoverfly reintroduction, and giant armadillo research in Brazil’s Pantanal.
Since 2021, Ben has run two Edinburgh-based businesses: BH Wildlife Consultancy and DroneWild with his partner Katie Harrower. BH Wildlife Consultancy specialises in thermal imaging wildlife drone surveys across Europe, delivering baseline population counts for government agencies, environmental NGOs and private estates. While deer are the primary focus, surveys also focus on species such as squirrels, boar, feral goats and wallabies. In 2023, the company received the CONFOR Innovation and Research Award for advancing the forest industry’s understanding of deer populations. DroneWild launched after winning a Scottish Government CivTech innovation challenge and develops drone-based tools for wildlife management and conservation, integrating machine learning, software and hardware solutions.
