FAQs

What is Mammal Society Junior Membership?

Junior Members of the Mammal Society receive a special welcome pack, and then four seasonal zines over the course of the year, with activities, competitions and fascinating facts about mammals and mammal conservation. Each zine folds out into a poster for your wall. Junior members will also get invited to exclusive online events to hear from wildlife experts about the fascinating animals in the British landscape, and the work being done by scientists and conservationists - and young people - to study and protect them.

By becoming a junior member you start a journey of discovery in to the world of mammals and mammal conservation, while helping the Mammal Society in its important work to protect and restore native mammal populations across the British Isles and Ireland.

Welcome pack contents

  • Mammal Society Junior Member Handbook, packed with information about mammals and ways to help monitor and protect them.

  • Mammal Mascot figurine - choose from hedgehog, fox, red squirrel, stoat, red deer stag, roe deer fawn, otter or badger

  • Membership card and Fact-file about your chosen Mammal Mascot species.

  • Footprint tunnel kit (charcoal dust, paintbrush, instructions, footprint guide)

  • Wildflower meadow seeds (for Mammal Mascot Habitat activity, or to help make your garden or local wild space mammal friendly)

  • Gift Card (can be delivered containing a message of your choice, or blank).

  • A year of membership costs £45, which includes your welcome pack, four seasonal zines and access to junior membership events and competitions for 12 months.

  • It’s up to you! You might just want access to interesting facts about mammals and news from the world of mammal conservation, or you might want to get active and start up your own mammal monitoring project in your garden, school or local greenspace. As a member you’ll get all the information and support you need.

  • There’s no strict rule at all, but we think the handbook, zines and activities are perfect for 7-14 year olds. Younger mammal champions may need some adult support to undertake some of the suggested activities. We think over 16s would get more out of adult Mammal Society membership.
